On September 26th, 2022, I received the news of the passing of an extraordinary individual, an icon, a legendary leader, an unparalleled scholar, a mentor, a father figure, a devout practitioner, a global legal expert, a dynamic force across international spheres, a man of great integrity, the spiritual leader of leaders worldwide, a gentle soul in his dealings, a contemporary luminary in Islamic studies, a beloved grandfather, and a beacon of guidance for our ummah in the 21st century. He was a well-civilized Alfa, one of the most venerable scholars of our great ummah, a world traveler, a peacemaker who opposed oppression and condemned terrorism, a prolific writer, a profound thinker for Islam, and a poet of our era – Shaykh Abdul Yusuf al-Qaradawi.
