To All Parents Out There By Salmah Zakariyyah
It's pertinent to let your wards__children, be well acquainted with as many a thing as possible, both sensitive and insensitive stuffs. All you need to do is make the awareness alongside the pros and cons. Tell them what they need to know as they age. Attend logically to all their questions because it's totally unwise to let them solve their puzzles outside, not in this entirely spoilt world we are.
Let me use this story of mine to buttress my claim:
A distant uncle once sent me something at a chemist shop. I was in SS1 then. " Salmah, buy me CD from baba Ayisha's shop " he had instructed.
" CD? What's that? Is that too drug? "I had asked naively not knowing what that means. Besides, that has always been my habit whenever I am sent something unfamiliar coz I might meet the absence of the boss and the presence of an apprentice.
Seeing my confused looks or perhaps, out of feeling guilty for sending innocent child something uncouth, he said
" Oh, when you get there, tell baba Aaisha you were sent by uncle lagbaja ( he mentioned his name ) and off I went.
When I get there and tabled what I wanted, I saw many gazes turned towards me and I started feeling uneasy. Baba Aisha must be too stunned because he was just looking at me. When I could no longer bear the intense gazes , I let them know I was sent by uncle lagbaja and they all heaved a relief sigh.
" I know you don't know the meaning of what you were sent. The Salmah I know would not heed such errand " baba Aaisha said and handed me the package.
I told mum what happened when I returned home and she started afresh, all the admonitions I'm not really strange to.
" You should have taken permission before running the errand " mum was troubled
" Then I would have not allowed you but I'm glad , your personality doesn't get stained for people at the chemist shop already know you for your piety " mum consoled herself.
If I had known what CD meant, would I have heeded the errand?
Take care of your children. You will be accountable for however they live their lives.
