Shun Mawlud Nabiyy By Maruf Muhammed Olalekan Esq.

There was a time I had to tell someone when he was challenging my position on Maulud Nabiyy that I grew up in a Tijajiyyah household. My dad is a renowned Islamic Cleric of the Tijajiyyah sect and we grew up doing Wazifa, kubura, attending Maulud Nabiyy etc. The Arabic school I attended in my hometown where I learnt how to recite and interprete the Holy Qur'an was Tijajiyyah, my Ustaz is a strong member from Afon, Ilorin.
However, having made several researches on the pristine Islam due to my extreme inquisitivene'ss, I concluded it wasn't part of Islam which I stated few days ago.
As at 2017, I had already memorized 700 Hadiths of the Prophet (SAW) including their isnaad and Matn with full understanding of their commentary, thanks to my elder sister, Maryam who supported me towards that.
I had the soft copy of all the 6 collections of Hadith, read many books on the history of the Prophet (SAW), finished Al Muwatta of Imam Malik within a Month and made my jottings!
Hence, when I speak, I speak in the clearest way possible to deliver the knowledge to the understanding of the audience online or offline. If you have seen me giving a sermon, I could be very challenging intellectually.
I feel some of the things affecting us in the Ummah are half knowledge which is extremely dangerous, shrewd ignorance, dogmatism and fanaticism of some Muslims.
I have diligently perused the evidence supplied for and against the celebration of the birthday of our beloved Messenger of Allah (SAW) by several Muslims and scholars at this age.
With more curiosity, I researched further on this looking for the books of the four scholars of the foremost Islamic schools of jurisprudence. None of Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Iman Shafi'i and Hanbal wrote anything pertaining to it. These were people whom lives over 2000 years after the demise of the Prophet and wrote comprehensively on different aspects of Islam in their explanation of the Deen. The other generation of  Islamic scholars who collected the Hadiths didn't too; no evidence whatsoever and upon the different caliphates till it was the turn of the Abbasid caliphate which was reportedly corrupt, vile and treacherous.
The celebration of people congregating together, reciting the poem written by Al Bussairi titled Burda( I incidentally crammed from the beginning to the end whilst in Arabic school) for praising the Messenger (SAW), free mixing of men and women and eating sumptuous meals like a festival was commenced by the Fatimids in Egypt. All these were brought to the religion and was never practiced by the Prophet, his wives, the companions and the first 3 generations after the companions.
There's one famous Hadith reported in Sahih Muslim 1162 where the Prophet (SAW) used to fast on Mondays and when asked why, he replied; "On that day I was born and on it, the revelation came". This Hadith reflected two things and that's:
1. Monday was cherished because it was the day the Prophet (SAW) was born and raised as a Messenger. Coincidentally, he died on a Monday.
2. With that, the Prophet (SAW) didn't celebrate himself or any of the companions were seen attaching more importance to the day rather than fasting. Hence, it's logical that if this Hadith is to be strictly adopted as evidence,.. anyone who claims to love the Messenger of Allah (SAW) should fast every Monday following his Sunnah. With that, he or she would be absolutely rewarded as he has followed an act which was done by the Prophet (SAW) himself.
Where is the evidence of him or any of his companions converging in an area, shouting Allah in a loud tune with free mixture of men and women singing his praises as a means of celebrating his birthday?. If there's any, I challenge them to supply me.
Moreover, assuming but not conceding (in Kokoka's voice)that they want to do it, it should be on ...every Monday. Why are they these days choosing different days for the celebration of their Mawlud?. Some wouldn't even allow the neighborhood to sleep with their loud voices on the microphones. With what intentions?
Not dawah! Not enlightenment on the important matters of the Deen?
But to exercise glamour, pomp and luxury and show how much they have possesed as material things. You would attend to some and see the women leading the Zikr wearing trousers singing in a very beautiful tone and dancing seductively before the Alfas. One of the Alfas can show interest after the whole show in the othe..other room in the long run. 😂
I know of all these because I attended many whilst growing up so I can relate well.
Most Alfas who are jobless and impoverished do it to gather money from people who come especially politicians who have been consulting then for different reasons.
Allah already cleared them in Quran 57 V 16: " ... they invented it themselves for we haven't enjoined it on them...." It's Allah saying" na you know where you see that, it's not part of what we enjoin on you".
The Prophet (SAW) said: "The most evil of deeds is that of the invented ones for every newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a misguidance and every misguidance is in the hell fire".
The above Hadith carries so much weight as it blatantly warns against any act which is not justified in the religion; a newly invented way( belief or action) in the religion, its imitation of the Shar'iah by which nearness to Allah is sought but has no authentic proof (either in its foundations of the way it's to be performed).
Celebrating Mawlud Nabiyy falls into this category hence, it's on that basis that it's declared a "Bidi'ah" and should be ultimately refrained upon.
Allah warns "And do not be like those who became divided and deferred after the clear proofs have come to them, and they would have a great punishment" (Quran 5 V 105). These are the Innovators in the deen and it's the best a Muslim refrains from it.
That your Dad does it doesn't mean it's right and you should ask yourself if in respect to your religion, do you want to please your Creator, Allah or His Creatures?. Would the creatures reward u?
Would you be accountable to them on the day of Resurrection?

Some claimed it's a good Bid'iah (Bid'iah Hasaanah).
It's the position of majority of scholars that whoever introduces an innovation into Islam which he views to be good has acted treacherously towards the message of Muhammad (SAW) as Allah already said "... today, I have completed your religion for you (Quran 5 V3)
In this circumstance, anyone celebrating Mawlud Nabiyy is confidently saying Prophet Muhammad (SAW) didn't deliver his message completely as what was not in the religion as at when that verse of the Quran was revealed at Arafat cannot be claimed to be part of it. Wallahu Alaam.

Shun Mawlud Nabiyy
It's nothing but an innovation in the religion.
